Friday 17th July 2020

Last day of homeschool!

Unfortunately, I had some bad news.  My goldfish Bubbles has died.  His friend Goldie Goldfish died 2 years ago and we kept him in the freezer so when this day came they could be buried together. Dad dug a hole under the bird table (there are fish on it so it is an appropriate headstone).  We held a wake and the catering was supplied by Dominos!

I did some colouring and we also watched some episodes of 'The Floor is Lava' on Netflix which is really funny. Here are my pictures:

Thursday 16th July 2020

I started the day with a Maths paper. I did really well and got 30/35.  I then did some handwriting.

I then did some reading and answered some questions.

Then we had an afternoon of craft.  I had sorted my clothes out earlier in lockdown and I gave lots of clothes to my cousins.  There was also a bag with clothes that were worn out and not good enough to give to the charity shops.  So I dug around in the bag and made some new clothes!  Although I don't think I'd go out of the house in any of them! Look what I did:

Wednesday 15th July 2020

I have had a subscription to Maths Whizz and I got to the end - I'd done all the lessons.  So my mum said I should do the test again that I did when we first started doing Maths Whizz.  This took about an hour and covered all of the topics from place value, fractions, ratio, equations etc.

I then did some handwriting in my exercise books and as a reward for being good in lockdown mum has said I can choose some left handed pens and pencils so I can keep improving.

I then read a poem called 'The Revival of Crumbledown School'.  I then answered the questions and had a go at writing my own acrostic poem.

Then I looked at limericks and wrote about some of the teachers in school:

There once was a teacher Mr A
Who always had something to say
He said 'bye' to Dubai
And  Class 4 then said 'Hi'
'Welcome to the best school in Haigh!'

There once was a teacher Mrs Ingham
Who fancied herself wearing gingham
She was terribly nice
And never thought twice
If kids needed help she would ring 'em!

There once was a Headteacher Mr Woods
Who always liked his sweet puds
He loved chocolate and cream
But was never mean
and when the choir sung he was in floods!

Tuesday 14th July 2020

So we started the day by visiting family and popping into school to drop off gifts for the staff at school.  It was so nice to see people and I can't wait to be back in September.

By the time we got home it was lunch - easy day so far.  After lunch Mum set me a short reading task about Bees.  I then answered some questions.

I did some maths next. First I looked at locus and loci.

I then did some work on lowest common multiples.  Mum explained and then I did 5 questions.  First I worked out the prime factors of each number and then multiplied them. Here is my work.  I just slipped up on the last one.

Monday 13th July 2020

It's the final week of school.  We did some English first.  I read the story of Romeo and Juliet and watched the animated tale.  I then watched a summary of the play and answered some questions.

I then did a Maths Reasoning paper so I could see which topics I need to work on.  My mum went through the paper with me and on 3 questions I started them and was doing it write and then wrote the wrong number in the box - I could kick myself!

I also did some colouring.  I have being doing flowers and today I started a bird.  I will post when it is finished.

After lunch I did some more Maths.  I had to work out the common factors with a set of numbers.

I then watched the film 'Romeo & Juliet' by Baz Luhman.  I really enjoyed it.  Here is the trailer.

Friday 10th July 2020

My mum was in work but she still left me some work to do.

I did did a reading comprehension about Elon Musk and Space X and answered the questions. I got 14/16.

I then did another 2 pages in my handwriting book.

I also did some art.  Mum sent me a link from the Tate modern website and I had to listen to the sounds and draw a creature for that sound.  Here is the link I followed:

Tate: Sound Creatures

Here are my sound creatures:

I then did the oak national English and Maths lessons.

Thursday 9th July 2020

My mum was in work today so she left me some work to do and Dad supervised. I did 4 out of the 5 things she left me to do - unlucky for me I didn't get to Maths!

The first task was a reading comprehension.  I read 'Adventures with Pip and answered the questions.  I got 15/16 which I am very pleased with.

I then did some handwriting in one of my new workbooks.

The third task was to research Aboriginal art and to draw a picture.  I look at lots of images and videos and noticed some of the things like hand prints and arrows.  I also noticed there was some reflection too.  I came up with two designs and then picked my favourite.

I then read 3 chapters of 'POG'.

Finally when mum got home I did the Oak national Maths and English.

Wednesday 8th July 2020

I started with my oak national Maths and English.  In English I re-read the short story and picked out 4 key features of short stories:

In Maths I had to do some divisions that involved converting remainders into decimals. The first one was easy but the second 2 equations were harder as the remainders went to 2 or even 3 decimal places.  I didn't think I was doing it right but I was!

I then did a task set by Mr Atkinson.  I had to research about the immune system and design a poster to advise people how to boost their immune system.  I haven't finished it all yet but I have done my research:

I then used my research into how our bodies defend ourselves from microbes by making a comic strip.  Here it is:

I then designed a poster:

Our final lesson was science on oak national.  I learned that if more cells are added then the lamp is brighter as there is more energy.  If more lamps are added to a cicuit then the light is dimmer as it receives less energy.

Tuesday 7th July 2020

I love Tuesdays - it's time for Spanish.  Mum always makes me wait though so I had to do English and Maths first.  In English I read another short story and answered the questions.  In Maths I had to look at the at the divisions and convert the remainder to a fraction.

In Spanish I learned about how to describe my appearance. I would say:
  • Tengo los ojos azules.
  • Tengo el pelo marron.

I then did some research on digestion.  I started by watching a video that Mr Atkinson set from Operation Ouch!  You can watch it below.  I made notes.

I then read a chapter in my human body book and learned about the organs involved in digestion.  I also drew a picture and labelled the different parts.  It is an interesting topic but some parts of it were disgusting.

Monday 6th July 2020

First I did English.  I read a short story and then answered the comprehension questions.  I then did the Maths lesson on Negative numbers.

In geography I learned about the place Freiburg in Germany.  Here is a link to the website:

I learned about how the place is sustainable. One of the ways is that many people grow their own food.  I was interested in this as I am trying to grow some vegetables.

I then had to try and improve my handwriting.  My mum bought some books on the weekend for me.  I've now found another subject I hate!  I find it hard being left handed.  I then did some work on antonyms and I had to select the correct prefix from un. dis and mis.

I also did a lesson on Islam.  I learned about the Qu'ran and how it should never be placed on the floor.  When it is not used it is kept on a high shelf and covered in a special cloth. When it is being read it is placed on a special stand called a Rehal. The Hadith is like a collection of stories about Muhammed.  The Qu'ran is the literal word of God/Allah. Someone who learns the Qu'ran off by heart is called an Hafiz.  This means guardian.

I then read some of my book 'POG',

I also had a go at making some crystals I will keep you updated on how they develop.

Friday 3rd July 2020

Friday is here again. The weeks are going by very quickly!
I did the Oak National lessons this morning.  In Maths I learned about the different parts of a circle.

In English I had to write a Newspaper report making sure it had direct and indirect speech.  I also had to use some of the features of newspapers such as headings, subheadings and columns.  Here is my newspaper report about a break in at a bar but the burglar gets drunk and he is found the next morning!  Here's my report:

I then did a quiz on tenses: simple, perfect, progressive. I got quite a few wrong!

After that, I read an article about eating insects and answered the comprehension questions.

To end the day I made some fairy cakes - yummy!

Thursday 2nd July 2020

I did all of the Oak National lessons this morning.  In English I read the news report and the focus was on direct and indirect speech.  I had t identify which was whch in the report and then I had to rewrite some sentences.  In Maths I looked at a range of nets and had to say what 3D shape they made.

In Geography I learned about Curibita in Brazil and how it was transformed from an over populated and polluted city to one of the greenest. They pedestrianised streets and introduced special buses and stops.

I then did some English with mum.  I went over apostrophes and I also write down some things that I wanted to remind myself of in 6 months time.  Mum will keep this and then hand it back to me in 6 months time.  This made me appreciate what I had before lockdown like family and friends, school and dance.  I also gave myself some reminders of things to do.

I also did some extra work on time.  Mum gave me a train timetable and I had to answer the questions working out which train to catch and the times etc.  I also had to write the times on an analogue clock, on a 24hr clock and a 12 hour digital watch.

I read the prologue and first chapter of a book called 'POG' by Padraig Kenny.  I answered some questions and we started to think about the characters and what had happened.  I enjoyed it so we went on Amazon and bought a copy so I could read the rest of the book.

Wednesday 1st July 2020

I completed my advert for my healthy ready meal that I made yesterday.  It was really delicious.

I then completed the 3 Oak National lessons.  I did English first.  I read the news report and then had to identify some of the key features:

In Maths we had to sketch some 3D shapes.  This was quite tricky but I had a good go!  I need to keep trying.

In science Miss Simkin did an experiment to see which materials were insulators and conductors. I guessed the metals would conduct but the fabrics, wood and cardboard did not.

I picked 'Much Ado About Nothing' for the next Shakespeare play to learn about.  I watched some videos on YouTube about characters and themes and then I read the story version.

I liked it very much.  I then completed some exercises and watched the play.  Beatrice is my favourite character.
