Tuesday 31st March 2020

This morning my mum gave me a Roman numerals challenge.  I got my bronze and tomorrow I will go for silver!

I then did a grammar lesson.  Today I learned about DETERMINERS.  These are words that go before a noun and can be:
  1. Articles
  2. Demonstratives
  3. Possessive
  4. Quantifiers

My mum went through a presentation and test with me and I could spot the different determiners.  I then completed some worksheets on my own and wrote some of my own sentences using different determiners.

We then learned about ELECTRICITY and discussed how much we rely on it everyday. We researched different types of energy used and the advantages and disadvantages of them.

I chose to learn more about  how wind turbines worked.  Here is a video:

I wanted to do a poster on WIND TURBINES because they are good for the planet and look really cool!  Here is my finished poster:

I then did some READING PLUS.

Monday 30th March 2020

Morning everyone!

I picked to do some maths first and then I read the Tim Peak worksheet and answered the questions.  It's been really good to read about what goes on on the space station because we have been watching it fly over us at night!

I then looked at some examples of newspaper stories and I planned out my report of the fire we saw on Friday.

I had to remember to include the following:

  • Headline
  • Byline
  • Caption
  • Name of the newspaper
  • Standfirst
  • Picture
  • Quotes
I enjoyed doing this especially drawing the tractor on fire and the fireman's face!

After lunch we looked at relative pronouns and I completed some exercises.  Pronouns are words which connect a clause or phrase to a noun.  Words such as Who, Where, Which, That, Whom, Whatever.

I then did some maths where I did some equations and then bisected some angles using a compass which is quite tricky! (relative pronoun) It's the first time I've used a compass so I think I need to try a few more times.

The last thing I did this afternoon was some Reading Plus and TT Rockstars.

I'm now going to get ready for dance as my teacher is putting my National and Ballet lessons online.

See you tomorrow!

Friday 27th March 2020

It's a lovely sunny Friday!  We have made it and my first week of homeschool is done!

The first thing I did was Maths.  My mum printed some worksheets all of TIME questions and problems.  This is my worst maths topic.    I got a few wrong but mum went through them with me. I need to remember not to use column addition cause we are not dealing with hundreds.  We are dealing in 60s!

I then did some PSHE.  We did the topic Human Rights.  We looks at the rights together and talked about them.  We then played a game of 'Who Wants To Be a Millionaire' where I had to pick the right answer.

I then picked a human right to research.  I picked the right to EDUCATION.

We read about Malala.  She is an activist who stands up for the rights of women in education because she loved going to school.  When she was told she couldn't go she ignored them.   One day she was on her way to school and she was shot. She survived and still encouraged other women to go to school. I designed a jigsaw puzzle piece to represent the right to education.

This is my design:

I went for a walk with Ziggy around the golf course and found a pine cone as big as my hand.  I plan on painting a the small cone tomorrow so it looks like a disco ball and the big one I found will be a person. My mum's not impressed!

I then had a grammar lesson on pronouns - boredom.  However I did do very well on the worksheets.

Then Ziggy started barking so I went to see what it was and I saw a fire engine going to the house next door to our house.  My mum looked through the window and we saw lots of black smoke!  Then another fire engine turned up so we went into the back garden to see if we could see anymore.  I took some pictures as my mum said I could write a newspaper report next week!

After a while we heard a huge bang and there was lots more black smoke!!  I wasn't allowed outside then in case it was dangerous.  I hope everyone is ok.

This was quite a dramatic end to my first week of home school.

Thursday 26th March 2020

Today has been a very busy day!

So last night we watched the ISS fly over us.  It was amazing to see it so clearly.  It was very fast.

This morning after breakfast my first lesson of the day started out with learning a bit about the parts of the ISS.  We then looked at the video we took and decided to make a film trailer.

The film is about a young scientist who works on the design of the ISS.  She gets an emergency call saying there has been an explosion on the ISS.  She must try to save the people on the station and stop it hurtling towards Earth!

Here is the film trailer.

I really enjoyed making the trailer.  I like acting and running about.  My climbing frame is supposed to be a rocket!!!!

It was a lot of fun.  I needed some help editing as it was fiddly bit I did all of the titles which help to tell the story.  Can you spot who the Executive producer was?

My next activity was to choose 4 countries and to put them together and design a football kit for their team. The countries I picked were:
  • England
  • Switzerland
  • Uruguay
  • Panama

I then had a choice of a Maths paper or Verbs - what a choice!!??  I picked verbs and completed some worksheets.  Mum explained modal verbs and I wrote a description about the picture.  Here it is:

I then did the Maths paper and my mum went through the ones I got wrong. We tried to get on Minecraft but it didn't work so I read some more of my book - Little women and we watched some more of the film.

The best thing about today was making the film and I actually did enjoy doing work on verbs too!

Wednesday 25th March 2020

Today, we started with a reading activity.  I read a sheet with information about Deforestation.  I then answered the questions.  I learned that Deforestation means getting rid of rainforests which is bad for the planet.  Here is a video we found to explain it all in more detail.

Next I wrote a book review of a book I read recently called 'Top Marks for Murder' by Robin Stevens.  I have read all of her books and they are my favourite series that I have read so far. There is also a trailer which gives information about the book.

I then took Ziggy for a walk in the sunshine.  I also saw one of my friends but we kept our distance!  I am missing my friends at school - sob!  I frantically squeezed in 3 Reading Plus lessons before Mr Atkinson checked and then I did some English grammar - which was boring.  I learned about concrete, abstract, collective and proper nouns and complete a work sheet.

Finally I completed my jigsaw of the British isles.  My mum remembers doing this as a child so some of the counties have changed.  One piece was chewed by Ziggy! I told him off!!

I looked at all the places I had been too and saw the ones I hadn't. I really loved it when we went to the Highlands of Scotland and I've been everywhere in Wales in the campervan. I do want to go to Oxford and Cambridge in the future because the murder books are set there and it looks great.

Tuesday 24th March 2020

I started today with some PSHE.  I read some information about how to stay safe online and how to keep healthy. We then played a game to answer questions and win fruit.
Questions like:

  • How can we get people to eat more fresh fruit and veg?
  • What things should you avoid to get a good nights sleep?
  • What things should you not do online?

  • I then completed a reading task from Mr Atkinson.  It was about the Indus Valley.  I liked drawing the city.

And talking of art yesterday and today I did some cartoon drawings.  I followed along to Steve Harpster.  Here's what I did:

If you would like to learn how to draw monsters and characters go to his Youtube page
    HERE >>>>>

After a snack, I tuned in to Oti Mabuse's dance lesson.  I enjoyed it and will do that again!

I did a Maths paper and also one of Mr Atkinson's writing challenges when I'd finished my lunch.  Here is me reading the introduction.

    Monday 23rd March 2020

Today was day 1 of home schooling! First we started the day with PSHE and I completed my learning passport.  Then I created my pair of boots to reflect my own identity!

Next we did some ICT and I set up my own blog so I can record my learning at home!I could change the background, colours and fonts.  I also know how to add pictures.

Now it's break time and I will spend some of my money at the tuck shop . Healthy snacks cost less than unhealthy snacks . I've got my eyes on the Haribo but I will save them for after lunch somehow and then I can play with my dog, Ziggy! (His picture is in the frame at the side).

I then did a maths worksheet called 'Word problems'.  I got 19/20.  My mum knocked a mark off for one of my workings out - harsh!  I also did some TT Rockstars.

After lunch I took Ziggy for a walk and when we got back we started a Geography jigsaw.

We then started reading Little Women.  Here is the trailer for the 1949 film:

I've not finished my first day of home schooling.  My favourite bit was PSHE because I like designing and colouring. My least favourite part was Maths.
