The first lesson was Maths. I did the Oak National lesson on multiplying decimal numbers. I had to use different methods such as rounding up/down.
I then did a new topic of PERCENTAGES with my mum and answered some questions. I did really well and I could then go back to the questions I got wrong yesterday and redo them.
I then revised Modal Verbs and completed the Oak National English lesson. I had to read the non-chronological report on Griffins and pick out the model verbs.
I then did another History lesson with Miss Reid. Today's lesson was on Henry II and the murder of Thomas Beckett. Henry and Thomas were once best friends but they fell out because Peter Brois killed one of Henry's knights but wasn't tried in his court. The church had more power and had their own court. Henry wasn't happy about this and the they made an agreement that members of the clergy would be tried in the King's court from now on. At the last minute Thomas Beckett ripped this up and said it was a false oath. Henry was furious and exiled him to France - but he came back and kicked the priests out of his church. Henry sad 'Will no one rid me of this turbulent priest" and 4 knights took him at his work and murdered Thomas Becket at the altar. His skull was split in 2! The pope wasn't very happy. He made the king walk barefoot to Canterbury cathedral and he was flogged by the priests!
I then learned about Richard I and King John and then had to look at who was the worst king.
I then read a poem by Maya Angelou called Caged Bird. I thought this was really sad. It was about the differences between a free bird and a caged bird. I didn't like how cruelly the caged bird was treated. It was unfair that the caged bird could see the freedom but didn't have it.
Maya Angelous was a poet and a civil rights activist. I think the caged bird is how black people felt. Me and my mum then talked about everything that was happening with the protests and how some statues are being taken down. We talked about slavery. I then read the poem again and I think the caged bird could be a slave because the wings were clips and feet tied and put in a cage.
I think this was a really good poem because it made me think and it did make me cry.
I then made an optical illusion. I found a picture of a bird and a cage to colour. I then glued these onto card making sure one was upside down. I taped a shoe lace in between the discs and glued the discs together. Then I could twist. At first the bird is in the cage and then it disappears.
Great work Seren.
